Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka’s drive to bring unity among Western Kenya leaders has received a significant boost following an endorsement by Roots Party leader and former presidential aspirant, Prof. George Wajackoyah.

Wajackoyah made the endorsement during a courtesy visit to Lusaka’s office, where he encouraged the governor to take a central role in uniting the region’s often fragmented leadership.

He praised Lusaka as a seasoned statesman with vast political and administrative experience, capable of bridging divisions and bringing the Mulembe Nation under one vision.

“Use your past experience and goodwill to bring the Mulembe Nation together,” Wajackoyah urged, adding that Lusaka’s conciliatory leadership style and cross-party respect made him best placed to lead the unity drive.

He lamented the frequent infighting among Luhya leaders, warning that the ongoing public spats had eroded public confidence and undermined the region’s development prospects. He called for an end to political grandstanding and urged leaders to focus on collective interests rather than personal or party-driven agendas.

“Political differences should not breed animosity. We must rise above party affiliations and focus on what truly matters to our people,” Wajackoyah said, noting that unity will be critical as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

In his response, Governor Lusaka welcomed the support and confirmed that plans are underway to convene a regional leadership forum. He said consultations with fellow governors from the Western region had already started and that feedback so far was encouraging.

“I am committed to playing my part in uniting our leaders,” Lusaka said. “We must bring everyone to the table, regardless of political leaning. There is more to gain through dialogue and mutual respect than constant wrangling.”

The planned forum is expected to focus on consensus-building, economic empowerment, and joint strategies to unlock the region’s potential.

Political observers argue that if Lusaka succeeds in rallying the region’s top political figures, it could mark a turning point for the Luhya community in asserting a stronger voice on the national political stage.
